Beginner Tips for Buying High End Makeup

As per subscriber request, I put together some recommendations to help anyone starting out in high end makeup. A disclaimer I make in my blog introduction post: I buy all types of makeup - drugstore (e.g., Maybelline, L'oreal, Revlon), mid-level (e.g., MAC, Urban Decay, Tarte), and high end (e.g., designer brands - Chanel, Tom Ford, Dior). I like to post information leaning towards high end because: 1) I'm currently most interested in high end makeup, 2) with so many reviews on drugstore makeup out there, I think I can provide helpful information on high end makeup, and 3) with the high price of high end makeup, I think the more reviews and swatches, the better.

So, my 5 general recommendations when buying high end makeup (especially if it's your first big buy) are:
1) Know what types of beauty products you are interested in (e.g., lipstick, eyeshadow, foundation).
2) Learn a little bit about the different brands and what their makeup philosophy is.
3) Swatch, swatch, swatch!! (or at least research your reviews and swatches online).
4) Think about what you're paying for with regard to form and function.
5) Consider how you're going to use your makeup products (e.g., at home on a vanity, on the go, travel)
