Tom Ford Lip Color Shines

I FINALLY got a break in the weather so that I could post pictures and swatches of my new Tom Ford Lip Color Shines. I picked up a beige-nude shade, Bare, and a medium-pink shade, Quiver. First, a quick look at the packaging.

Here are the swatches!

You can see the gold glitter/shimmer particles in both lip color shines here.

Even closer up, you can really see that gold shimmer in the direct day lighting.

I also compared the packaging to Tom Ford's Lip Color lipsticks. The TF Lip Color Shines are taller and thinner than the regular TF Lip Colors. The product itself is shaped more like the Chanel Rouge Coco Shines (cylindrical tube) vs. the typical lipstick shape with the "TF" logo etched into the lipstick top. Otherwise, the packaging is the same - i.e.,Tom Ford's signature dark brown, mahogany panels with the gold trim accent.

And, for swatch comparisons, I brought out two products that reminded me of TF's Lip Color Shine in 05 Bare: Guerlain Kiss Kiss Gloss in 851 Sable Show and Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 48 Evasion.

Now to the swatches! You can see that the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 48 Evasion looks more pinky toned than the TF Lip Color Shine in 05 Bare. In the picture, it also appears less shiny than the TF Lip Color Shines. On the lips, however, I find that they both have similar shine finishes. Guerlain's Kiss Kiss Gloss in 851 Sable Show is obviously the most shiny with its gloss finish. And, on the opposite spectrum, the Tom Ford Lip Color in 19 Aphrodisiac is the most opaque finish.

Overall, I like the Tom Ford Lip Color Shines. I expected them to be a fairly comparable dupe to the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine formula, but I was mistaken. In true Tom Ford fashion, the Lip Color Shines are a little bit creamy to apply (reminiscent of, but not identical to the very creamy texture of their regular Lip Color lipsticks). The Chanel Rouge Coco Shines feel a bit more hydrating with more slip. I personally find the Chanel Rouge Coco Shines a little more comfortable to wear because of the extra slip, but not as much slip as the YSL Rouge Volupte (which I personally do not like).

The finishes of both the TF Lip Color Shines and Chanel Rouge Coco Shines are similar. They both provide that semi-transparent, high shine finish. They both wear for a decent time, even after eating. I expected the TF Lip Color Shines to have longer wear because of the *slightly* creamier formula, but I was surprised to say that both TF and Chanel wore similarly even after eating and drinking. Again, reminiscent of the TF Lip Color lipsticks, the Lip Color Shine in Quiver gave a faint wash of color (I wouldn't go as far as to say a stain) after the shine wore off due to eating.

The TF Lip Color Shines smell just like the Lip Color lipsticks - that vanilla, almost vanilla pudding smell - ha. The Chanel Rouge Coco Shines smell like the signature Chanel rose scent.

So, yes - I enjoy these Tom Ford Lip Color Shines. I think they are a perfect hybrid of their Lip Color lipsticks and a Chanel Rouge Coco Shines. I think the finish is similar enough to the Chanel Rouge Coco Shines that I would choose based on wear on the lips. If I were to have to choose between the two, I slightly prefer the Chanel Rouge Coco Shines because of the extra slip that just feels more hydrating and comfortable to my lips, and I also prefer the rose scent. The Tom Ford Lip Color Shines are still something I will take pleasure wearing, though.
