Chanel Quad in Prelude and Eyebrow Pencil in Noir Cendre

Another Chanel update - this time permanent range items: 1) Chanel Les 4 Ombre Quadra Eyeshadow in Prelude and 2) Chanel Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Noir Cendre.

I don't actually own many Chanel eye quads. I have their last two seasons' eye quads: Harmonie du Soir (Holiday 2012) and Raffinement (Chanel's Printemps Precieux de Chanel Collection). Both are fantastic! I especially favor the Harmonie du Soir (Holiday 2012) quad :). As for all the other (permanent line) eyeshadow quads, I hear mixed reviews. It seems that Chanel's eyeshadows are a bit of a mixed bag, which is a bit of a turn off, quite honestly, because now I have to do even more research and swatching before I buy. To contrast, I can usually just pick any Tom Ford Eye Color Quad or Guerlain 4 Ecrin Couleur palette (based on color preference), and I'm good to go! So, I did my research, and Prelude seemed to get good reviews ... and I'm quite happy with it :). The color payoff is good, and the shadows blend nicely. I really love the cool-toned neutrals, and I can see myself using this often.

Next up is the eyebrow pencil. I'm very picky about my eyebrows because: 1) I have sparse hairs (jealous of those of you with full, thick, youthful brows) and 2) I think grey toned colors look far more natural on black hair (brown is really stark looking to me). Well, I heard so many great things about Chanel's eyebrow pencil, I figured I'd bend the rules a little.

First (impression), it is REALLY pigmented!! Almost to the point of unforgiving if it weren't for the spoolie at the other end. Second, it does have great lasting power. Third, although it's dark brown, it has enough grey undertone to it that it works on my brows. Fourth, I do prefer the spoolie at the end to the angled brush on the Shiseido eyebrow pencil. Also, I appreciate they throw in a Chanel pencil sharpener.

Final thoughts: I like the Chanel Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Noir Cendre, especially for bolder brows to balance out stronger makeup or lip colors, but for softer daytime looks, I still think the Shiseido Natural Eyebrow Pencil in Natural Black looks more natural on my face. I like both options, actually.
